Denver, Colorado / CRWE Press Release / March 6, 2026 — The National Junior College Prep (NJCP) Football League is proud to announce the appointment of Kevin Hernandez as the lead for the Colorado Gray Wolves. A veteran coach with a diverse background in collegiate and professional athletics, Hernandez brings decades of experience to the Denver-based program, positioning the Gray Wolves as a premier destination for athletes looking to reclaim their football career.
Hernandez’s journey in football began in the California Bay Area, where he starred at St. Vincent High School in Petaluma before taking his talents to Colorado State University. At CSU, Hernandez earned his stripes as a walk-on Free Safety, a background that forged the "dog mentality" and discipline he now instills in his players. His athletic prowess extended beyond the gridiron, leading to a professional stint in the Chicago Cubs minor league system.
Between 2000 and 2011, Hernandez served as an Assistant Football Coach at Dixie State College under the mentorship of legendary Hall-of-Fame coach and current NJCP Advisor, Greg Croshaw. Together, they hosted ten seasons of elite high school summer camps, sharpening the skills of the next generation of talent. Hernandez’s coaching resume also includes international experience at Meijo University in Nagoya, Japan, as well as roles in the Paradise Bowl and the Denver Broncos Alumni summer camps.
“I believe it is a real tragedy for anyone who wants to and can still play the game NOT to play,” said Coach Hernandez. “Football is a special place and time in our lives. If you have the hunger to continue your career, I have found a home for you within NJCP. Whether you end up in Denver or with another team in this league, this is a golden opportunity that no true player should miss. Life is football, and football is life.”
As part of NJCP, the Colorado Gray Wolves offer athletes a professional-grade platform designed to bridge the gap to the next level. With a nationally livestreamed season and access to elite game film, the Gray Wolves ensure that every player is seen by scouts and recruiters coast-to-coast. Hernandez’s leadership emphasizes the "investment of life," preparing athletes for success both on the field and in their collegiate futures.
“Kevin Hernandez understands the grit required to move from a walk-on to a leader,” said Commissioner Shawn Jones. “His deep ties to Colorado and his decade-long history with Coach Croshaw make him the ideal leader to build the Gray Wolves into a powerhouse of development and opportunity.”
Athletes ready to put the pads back on and join the hunt in Denver are encouraged to secure their roster spots now for the upcoming season.
