LAS VEGAS, Nev. / CRWE Press Release / August 11, 2026 — National Junior College Prep Football League teams are completing preseason preparations this month ahead of the start of competition, with rosters set and coaching staff moving from installation to game preparation.
The league operates teams in Eastern and Western conferences, with programs in cities including Louisville, San Antonio, Birmingham, Miami, and St. George. Each team is led by its own head coach and staff, and athletes were placed on rosters through the league's registration and evaluation process earlier this year. Players submitted their information and football background directly, and staff evaluated them on athletic ability, coachability, and academic standing before assignment to a program.
What the Season Format Provides
Athletes compete on a full schedule rather than in individual showcase events, practicing weekly, preparing for specific opponents, and playing games that produce a body of work across the season. The distinction matters at the point of evaluation, since a college staff reviewing an athlete is generally looking for multiple games and varied situations rather than a sequence of assembled highlights. Every NJCP game is recorded live, which makes that film available to players for study and to college coaching staffs at all levels.
That structure is the reason the league exists. For athletes who leave high school without an offer, finding a structured team environment and producing current film can be difficult. A player's conditioning declines once the schedule that built it disappears. Technique goes untested without live opposition, and existing film becomes less representative with every month that passes. A season addresses all of it at once.
Coaching Across the League
NJCP staffs across the league include former high school head coaches, collegiate assistants, and former professional players.
Dominick Jackson leads the California Roughriders, a national champion at the collegiate level who played professionally with the Detroit Lions, Washington, and Minnesota Vikings in the NFL, along with stints in the CFL with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders. In Louisville, Mike Reed heads the Thunder after head coaching stops at Iroquois and Fort Knox and a season as an assistant at Langston University. David Dalton leads the Salt Lake Yeti with nearly two decades of experience as a player and coach, focused on defensive development and player mentorship, while Micah Deckart leads the Idaho Outlaws, where he has emphasized integrating community service into the program alongside on-field preparation.
Coaches across the league are responsible for installation, position instruction, and player evaluation throughout the season. Position coaches handle the daily work of that instruction, running individual periods, leading position group meetings, and making the technique corrections that occupy most of a season, while head coaches manage the program and game operations.
