Laurinburg, North Carolina / CRWE Press Release / February 27, 2026 —— Coach Stephan Pearson of the North Carolina Lightning Football team has announced the launch of a new local Steering Committee dedicated to empowering young athletes and uplifting the Laurinburg and Scotland County communities. Scotland Yard Sports Complex will serve as the Official Training Facility, enabling year-round training and events.

The initiative’s mission is to help student-athletes excel both on the field and in the classroom, while instilling lifelong values of discipline, resilience, accountability, and self-belief. Beyond athletics, the program aspires to be a catalyst for community development and economic vitality in the region, leveraging Scotland Yard's multi-sport facilities.

“Our goal is simple but deeply meaningful,” said Coach Pearson. “We’re creating a space where young people can grow as athletes, students, and leaders, supported by a community that believes in their potential.”

“Partnering with NC Lightning aligns perfectly with our vision at Scotland Yard,” said Mr. Kevin McCallum, Owner. “We will start new construction and renovations immediately, with a projected completion date in mid-late July 2026, ensuring our baseball, softball, football, wrestling, and soccer fields provide the ideal home for this impactful program.”

By partnering with schools, law enforcement, faith organizations, businesses, health providers, and local government, the North Carolina Lightning program will broaden access to mentoring, tutoring, and life-skills development. The organization is committed to providing structured, high-quality football opportunities that emphasize teamwork, leadership, and academic achievement, especially for youth lacking safe, consistent environments for play and learning.

Economically, the Lightning will actively hire local staff, collaborate with local vendors, and host events at Scotland Yard to attract visitors to Laurinburg, boosting restaurants, shops, and hotels. Game days, youth camps, and community events will serve as gathering points for families and as platforms for local small businesses and nonprofits to gain exposure.

To keep participation accessible, the team will seek external sponsorships and grants, bringing new resources into the region and reducing financial barriers for local families.

Above all, Coach Pearson and the NC Lightning Football organization remain dedicated to transparency, collaboration, and long-term impact. This initiative stands as an enduring commitment to making Laurinburg and Scotland County safer, stronger, and more hopeful for generations to come.
