LAS VEGAS, Nev. / CRWE Press Release / September 9, 2026 — The National Junior College Prep (NJCP) Football League officially opened its 2026 season on September 5 with three Week 1 matchups across the league, giving players their first opportunity to compete after weeks of camp and preparation.
The opening weekend brought teams onto the field in Texas, Alabama, and Idaho, with players taking their first regular-season snaps and coaches getting an early look at their teams in competition. With Week 1 now complete, NJCP teams have their first results on the board as the league moves into the second week of the season.
Week 1 Opens the Season
In San Antonio, the Clutch City Eagles traveled to Brooks Academy to face the San Antonio Vipers, coming away with a 16-12 win. The Alabama Rays hosted the Louisville Thunder at Gulf Shores Sportsplex, where the Rays finished with a 26-22 win. In Meridian, Idaho, the Salt Lake Yeti opened their season against the Idaho Outlaws and finished with a 30-6 win.
For players who had spent the preceding weeks preparing through camp, the opening weekend marked the first chance to see that preparation tested against another NJCP team. The first games also give coaches competitive film to evaluate as teams begin making adjustments for the weeks ahead.
