Miami Legends Spotlight Coaching Staff Ahead of 2026 Season

Miami, Florida / CRWE Press Release / May 13, 2026 — The Miami Legends, a member team of the National Junior College Prep (NJCP) Football League, enter the 2026 season with a coaching staff that brings experience from the high school, collegiate, and player development levels.

Head Coach Tywane Stevens leads the program with a background rooted in mentorship, counseling, and football instruction. A graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High, Stevens has worked with student-athletes in a variety of settings, including youth football, school environments, and community programs. His experience also includes counseling work and time in sports leadership roles, giving him a broad perspective on athlete development both on and off the field.

Assistant Head Coach Derrick Spicer brings more than three decades of experience in sports and education. An alumnus of Kemper Military Junior College and Western Illinois University, Spicer has worked with thousands of student-athletes over the course of his career and brings an emphasis on education and long-term development to the Miami Legends program.

On the field, the Legends are led by Alexander Lee as Defensive Coordinator and Leroy Smith as Offensive Coordinator, providing structure on both sides of the ball as the team prepares for the upcoming season.

The defensive backfield is coached by Christopher Maxwell, a Miami native whose background includes playing at Miami Norland High School, Ellsworth Community College, and Edward Waters University. Maxwell has also spent time coaching youth football in both Jacksonville and Miami, where he has focused on discipline, teamwork, and fundamentals.

The Legends’ staff also includes Joie Thompson at running back and Rashad Gaitor at linebacker, adding position-specific experience to the program’s coaching group.

As the 2026 season approaches, the Miami Legends continue to focus on building a football environment centered on coaching, development, and preparation for athletes continuing their careers after high school.
